The Beach!

After Peter finished taking his boards exam last week (yay!) we headed to Virginia Beach for the weekend. We got a hotel right on the beach, and had a wonderful time. The kids loved the beach, and Peter and I loved the time away to just relax and have fun before Peter leaves for his rotations away this fall. We took tons of pictures (who could resist?) so here are just a few of them.
Right after we got there Friday evening, it stormed. Our room was on the 7th floor, so we had a great view of the lightning and rain. It was pretty neat to watch.
After the storm passed, we went out and walked around downtown (and got yummy frozen custard!) until they opened the beach again . There were "pirates" on the beach hosting a treasure hunt and handing out loot to the kids.
It was a beautiful evening to walk on the beach before the kids needed to get to bed.
I took this pic from our balcony :)

Saturday morning I headed out for a run along the beach, and discovered that there were at least 2 races being held on the boardwalk/beach that morning. I guess I should have checked into those before we got there!

When I got back, Peter and Hayden headed down to the beach while I showered, then Maycee and I went out to join them just in time for Maycee to be ready for her nap. So Peter took her back up and Hayden and I played on the beach for a while.
This is Hayden's sandcastle that Peter helped him build. Hayden absolutely loved playing in all that sand!
He wouldn't let me bury him in the sand, so we buried my legs instead.
Then we buried his legs and made them into a sandcastle. He thought it was hilarious that his toes were "stickin' out!"

It took Hayden a little while to warm up to the waves, but then he loved running around in them, and from them.

After Maycee woke up, we played for a few more minutes, then went and walked downtown to get some lunch. We went back to the hotel for naps, and then spent the rest of the day on the beach.

Maycee remembered the waves from the night before, and got really excited when we took her down to the water.
She didn't really know what to think of the sand in her toes and the waves. It was pretty cute. The whole time she was on the blanket she kept crawling to the edge to try and eat the sand. Eventually she succeeded in licking some off my big toe...Gross! Little stinker...

Peter and I took turns going out to play in the "big waves" as Hayden called them. We had lots of fun.We are all so glad that we got the chance to go to the beach this summer. We had a great time, the kids behaved very well, and no one wanted to leave. Now we just need to find an excuse to go back!
